Finding Balance

Finding a way to meet your fitness goals and fulfill work and family obligations can be a rather daunting task. The key I have found is to make the most of your schedule by being flexible and staying committed to your health. We often think we don't have time but the truth is we do, we just have to change a few things.

Get out early.
It may sound horrible but getting up early and exercising has been proven to make you happier and more productive. It sets the tone for the day and avoids those classic excuses like I don't have time. The added bonus is getting out the house and having some quite time to yourself.

Make the most of it
My favorite choice of exercise is running. Lately, I have found myself with little if any time to run. This has forced me to get a little creative. If I have 30 minutes I'll run at my 5k pace and mix in some speed work with hills. If I only have 20 minutes I sprint or I do some core work.

Break it into two workouts
Lately I haven't been able to find a two hour block of time during the day which compromises my ability to train for another marathon. Now I divide it into two runs, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It's not the optimal way to build endurance but it beats missing a run altogether.
