Fat paid off

I am thrilled to say that my diet change worked. At the advice of Katie I changed my diet. I added good fat back into my meal plan. Last week's long run was hard. I was out of carbs early so my body had nothing to burn after mile 14...mile 18 was gut wrenching. This week completely different. I ran 20 with the girls and it felt great, even with a severely injured foot. My legs felt stronger. So I'm going to continue with the increased fat in my diet. I've switched to eating peanut butter with bagels, full fat yogurt and lots of nuts, specifically almonds. I've also included full fat chocolate milk as my recovery drink after training runs. I add a bit of whey protein to the milk and it works.

Nutrition during the run yesterday looked like this:
1. Breakfast completed 1.5 hours before the run, turkey sausage and pancakes, 1 cup coffee 1 glass of water
2. Mile 10 had one access bar and one glass of water
3. Mile 11 had first sip of gatoraide
4. Mile 14 had a cookie
5. Mile 18 had finished all my gatoraide

Changes
1. Breakfast finish 1.5 hours before run, turkey sausage and buckwheat pancakes
2. After first 30 minutes start sipping gatoraide - every 15 minutes after that sip
3. Mile 8 have access bar and 8 ounces of water
4. Mile 13 have a gel and water
5. Mile 17 have another access bar/water
6. Mile 23 gel

We will see how this works. I also have to start doing more stretching of the front of the calf and balance board work in an attempt to get past this foot pain and get the foot stronger. It appears to be an issue with the intrinsic muscles of the foot. At this point the pain is constant. I can't point my toes or pull my foot in toward my calf without feeling a tremendous amount of pain. The reason this happened is unclear. It could have been too much milage on my shoes it could have also been a result of the speed work I was doing. Either way training for a marathon with this kind of pain is no fun.
