Politics Anyone?
9 days to go! In a week and a half our country will elect a new president and no matter who wins, this will be a historical occasion! I for one, will be glad when the election is over, I'm so tired of all of the bad mouthing of candidates. I can think of two good things that have come out of this event, maybe there's more, but these 2 jump out at me. 1)SNL has made a comeback and I've been able to stay up for it! 2) My children have learned a lot about the electoral process. They have seen campaigners hard at work, they have explored their own values, and they have learned (hopefully) that everyone deserves respect no matter what their political views are. Yes, this is tough for all of us at times and there's nothing like a kid questioning why you don't like the so and sos, to bring it all into perspective. What I told my kids that I think is important, is that I respect anyone who has strong feelings about our country and how they think it should be run. Those are the differences we need to embrace and that earns more respect in my book than someone who sits back and says they don't care much about what happens in the election and down the road complains they don't like the way things are going. I believe it not only to be our civic duty to vote, but to take the opportunity to learn about the implications of all of the amendments, and how judges are voted out or in and what the future may look like! How grateful am I that I live in a country where I can vote, and that my vote counts! Let's get out and rock the vote on Tuesday, November 4th and show your kids the privilege we have to vote for our country's next leader.
