What's holding you back?

Do you have some big dreams that you lost track of somewhere between high school and now? Why didn't you ever take that trip to Europe or jump out of a plane with a parachute attached? Maybe you always dreamed of singing on Broadway, or owning your own art gallery. Who stomped on those dreams of yours? Most likely it was you. Somewhere on the path of adulthood we hear things like "but the reality is...". Yes, it is important to be reasonable, but that doesn't mean don't bother trying. How dare society instill the belief that we can't achieve something because it costs too much or isn't practical. What are dreams for then? I'm pretty sure Earl Woods didn't tell Tiger he shouldn't play golf because the chances of becoming a pro are slim to nill. In fact I think I heard an interview where he said something to the effect of don't let anyone crush your dreams kid, you can be a star. Hmm. Makes you wonder. I believe with all of my heart that you can accomplish anything. It takes confidence,  perserverance, and a little voice in your head that says "I know I can." What do you teach your kids? Sure you can play football when you grow up. Are you really thinking "he'll figure out someday that there's too much competition and he'll need to do something else." I hope not. Tell your kids they can be ANYTHING they want and believe it. Now as for your crushed and lost dreams. Try to remember what they were. Write down three things you always wanted to do but never did. Figure out what was blocking those dreams, and then recreate them. Pick one that just might be feasible and start talking about it. You'll realize the power of networking when you set an idea in motion. So maybe you did always want to sing on Broadway, and now going back to performance school isn't a top priority, but what if you looked into a local theater company. Or maybe your church needs performers to sing during services, or perhaps a friend of a friend is getting married and is looking for someone to sing at their wedding. Now that would be cool. Set your dreams in motion again. Be confident and true to yourself and know that you are an inspiring being. Show your kids that dreams do come true.

Share your ideas with us for achieving your dreams. We would love to hear from those who have done it, what your obstacles were, and how you overcame them.
