How Much Exercise is Really Needed to Lose Weight?
Sorry ladies, but Time just put out research this week that says in order to lose weight we need to do “vigorous” exercise one hour a day, 5 days a week. This is different from advice in the past that suggested a 1/2 hour would suffice. That’s not say you need an hour a day to be heart healthy! Any fitness at all decreases your risk of heart disease as well as breast cancer. But if you’re trying to lose weight, get in the pool and swim laps, jump on the treadmill or come up with a variety of cardio exercises that you can do for an hour. Remember to build up to it, no one can go run an hour the first time out. Do not be discouraged by this news! The study also showed that women who really embraced this fitness level and stuck with their goals had more success in keeping the weight off, and that is the key. It does you no good to drop 100 lbs. if you’re not willing to make a life-long, life-style change.
